Difference between LED and OLED

Posted : 14th Apr 2022

LED stands for light-emitting diode and OLED stands for organic light-emitting diode.

LED is a semiconductor light source that gives out light when an electric current is passed through it.

OLED is a type of Light-emitting diode in which the film of the organic compound has a layer of luminescent which gives out light in retort to an electric current passed through it.

IS OLED BETTER THAN LED?

OLED is indeed better than LED in picture quality. OLED is the latest TV technology so compared to LED there are lots of up-gradation in terms of power consumption and its build.

IS THERE ANY VISIBLE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LED AND OLED?

OLED is thinner and lighter as compared to LED this is the only visible difference and the picture quality of OLED is far better than LED.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF OLED

ADVANTAGES: OLED has got the best viewing angles it can be viewed with no luminance degradation at viewing angles up to 84 degrees.

It is also claimed that OLED Tv produces only 34% blue light than LED Tv which produces 64%.

No backlight is required for the OLED panel and individual pixel is extremely energy efficient, thus panels consume less power as compared to LED panels.

OLED offers the fastest response time compared to LED. OLED pixels combine the light source and colour in a single diode as compared to LED TVs where it uses LEDs to produce brightness and tiny LCDs to produce colour as LCD shutters are slower to respond. OLED has the fastest response time.

DISADVANTAGES: OLED pixels in their maximum brightness for extended periods reduce their Lifespan. In dark rooms, OLED Tv is going to give its best performance but LED Tv can give its best performance in any brightly lit environment.

The size of OLEDs as compared to LEDs Tv’s is small. Large OLEDs are 88 inches whereas the largest LED TVs reach 100 inches in size.

IS OLED BETTER FOR EYES?

We need to be careful of the amount of blue light that comes out from this TV display. Each and every TV display emits blue light but the amount of blue light is what is important One of the brands claims that OLED panels generate 34% blue light whereas LEDs emit 64%. So, your eyes will be protected if you have OLED.
